CRITICAL BVLCR EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Bill Volk Leukemia Cup Regatta (BVLCR) committee reminds you to mark your calendar for Sunday, March 25. This will be the start of our annual campaign, and we are very excited that Gary Jobson will be our guest here at Keyport Yacht club. We are extending the invitation to other boaters in the area to come hear Gary talk to us about the state of sailing today. With his experience as a media commentator for the Olympics, which will take place this summer, it will be informative and entertaining. If you have not had the opportunity to meet Gary, who is a Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor, this is your chance. With the sailing season in the offing, this should help fuel enthusiasm for both racing and cruising!
KYC is issuing a challenge to the local clubs, “Think a Drink”. Mount Gay rum is a national sponsor of the Leukemia Cup Regatta, so to show our support, the contest is to come up with a new drink that includes Mount Gay, a squeeze of lime, and any other additives of choice. Gary will be one of three judges. The winning yacht club will receive a Mount Gay Rum gift basket. There will be food, drink specials, and lots of camaraderie. You don't want to miss this event, 2:00 pm, Sunday March 25.
This year, the society is offering incentives for fund raising. For example, $5,000 will get you the latest Apple iPad! Any sponsorships, ads, monies from personal web pages, matching funds from employers, will count towards the total amount raised by that individual. You will hear more specifics regarding incentives in the near future.
As you can see, there are some fun, exciting things going on this year with the BVLCR. This is just the start of what we anticipate will offer everyone a chance to enjoy the 2012 Bill Volk Leukemia Cup Regatta!
