Thinking about racing at KYC this year?
The RACE COMMITTEE will be running a series of seminars & discussions over the next few weeks to help get you started.
All sessions are FREE, no RSVP needed, and open to all members, crew members, prospective members, and guests.
Intro to Racing series – three sessions on the basics, on Saturday afternoons in February & March. Each session runs about 2 hours.
Sat Feb 4 - Part 1- Intro to Racing. An intro to the basics – types of races, the organizations, and vocabulary. And a review of the program at KYC
Sat Mar 4 – Part 2 – People, Jobs, and getting started (literally!) We’ll talk about some of the folks you will find on a typical racing boat, the committee boat, and jobs you might do. And we’ll cover the start sequence of a typical race, and how scores are determined.
Sat Mar 18 – Part 3. The Rules. We’ll cover the basics of the Racing Rules of Sailing.
All Saturdays are 2pm at the club. NOTE: THE LAST SESSION IS A DATE CHANGE TO ACCOMMODATE A CHANGE IN THE EXPECTED DATE OF ST PATRICKS EVENTS IN KEYPORT.
NEW EVENT! Thurs Feb 9, 7pm – PHRF 101 – An intro to PHRF Handicapping.
PHRF-MA will provide an introduction to the handicapping process – how to apply for a new cert, what the definitions mean (and what info you’ll need), and how PHRF uses that info. There will also be time for some Q&A on appealing a rating, and some changes to the PHRF-MA process this year.
